Frida in Gold and Glitter

  • Oil pastel, acrylic paint and glitter on wood
  • 24 × 24 in (61 × 61 cm)
  • 2026

A modern reimagining of Frida Kahlo, painted in oil pastel and acrylic and finished with layers of glitter. Frida appears with her signature crown of red roses, bold brows and gold hoop earrings, styled in a black leather jacket and a pearl choker — a meeting of Mexican icon and street-style attitude. Her wind-swept hair breaks out of a white outline into a background of hand-drawn, Pollock-style lines in magenta, blue and gold, framed by a shimmering gold border. The textured glitter catches the light differently from every angle, so the piece changes as you move around it. Original artwork, 24 × 24 inches, created in Toronto.

Russel Klein

Russel Klein is a Toronto-based pop artist whose work spans large-scale painting, mixed media, and expressive abstraction. Drawing from memory, emotion, and the visual energy of modern life, his canvases are built in layers — each surface a record of decisions made and unmade. His paintings pulse with chromatic intensity, marrying bold gesture with quiet restraint. Influenced by street culture, jazz improvisation, and the raw emotionality of expressionist masters, Klein has developed a visual language that is unmistakably his own.
